We’re already nearly a third of the way through 2018. Where’s the time gone? If you feel like you’re not achieving much and you’re ready to push the boundaries, you can make the rest of the year different by filling it with new skills and hobbies.

Speaking of hobbies, we know that well-being and happiness revolve around new challenges and experiences, don’t we? Well, what if you won the lottery? How would you ramp up your pastimes to align them with your new, rather swollen bank account?

We have some ideas.

Taking Your Hobbies to Another Level When You Win the Lottery

1. Skiing

Canada is revered for the quality of its numerous ski destinations. We know we get plenty of snow, creating perfect conditions for gliding across the runs. If you’ve never been skiing before, now’s the time to give it a try. It’s not just awesome exercise, but it’s also the perfect opportunity to soak up some seriously breathtaking mountainous scenery. It’s also really social.

Now, what if you won the lottery? Designer skis? Tick. The best skiing gear? Obviously. But, think bigger. What about your very own, private ski resort somewhere stunning like Quebec or Alberta? You know, a completely private venue for you and your nearest and dearest to enjoy the best skiing and snowboarding conditions Canada has to offer.

2. Get Arty

How often have you wanted to try your hand at being artistic? Plenty of us want to, but we never get the time to sit down, pick up an art tool of choice and get to work. Canadians enjoy art, and it’s really no surprise when we think about the gorgeous countryside that surrounds us. Even if you’re not a good drawer or painter, it could be wonderful to just take in the scenes as you wait for inspiration to hit.

Better yet, as the number of zeros in your bank account increase, you could take art lessons from a top Canadian artist, open an art school, or even buy a remote piece of land where you could sit to your heart’s content waiting for inspiration as you count your lottery winnings.

Not your cup of tea? You could always just spend your winnings on collector’s paintings to hang in your new mansion.

3. Ice Hockey

Canada equals ice hockey. If you’re looking for something to really sink your teeth into during the darker, colder months, don the skates and give the sport a try.

Yes, we know the Stanley Cup put you right off all the punch-ups and macho bravado the sport brings with it, but hey, it’s fun and it takes some serious skill.

If getting on the ice really doesn’t appeal to you, that’s okay. As a lottery winner, you could buy a box at a stadium and make sure you catch all the National Hockey League matches while entertaining your guests in sheer, opulent style. Heck, you might even buy a team!

4. Collecting Stuff

Believe it or not, Canadians love to collect stuff. From stamps and coins to everything in between. If you’re an avid stamp or coin collector, imagine being able to travel to a whole host of countries to personally pick up the items you’ve always wanted to add to your collection.

Canadians also like to spend time collecting things that could make them money down the line. If this is appealing, you may want to spend some of your new fortune on items like sports memorabilia or fine wines that you could auction off later on.

5. Hiking

For Canadians who aren’t too keen on balls and sticks or stamps and coins, hiking makes for great exercise. There are plenty of stunning hiking trails in our country, not to mention numerous national parks dotted around Canada.

Studies show that Canadians love outdoor activities, maybe you’re one of them?

Invest some of your new winnings in top-of-the-range hiking gear and head for the hills. While you’re at it, you could scope out a remote hilltop on which to build your dream property, complete with helipad and a hobby room or three, of course.

Taking up a hobby is a great thing to do, especially when you have excess cash to splash on the best of the best. What hobbies have you always wanted to try?
