In this Powerball winner story, an Iowa man considered himself super lucky in more than one way.

Some of the best feel-good stories involve Powerball winners. There’s just something heartwarming and magical about people stumbling into massive windfalls and life-changing Powerball tickets. In today’s tale, you’ll learn about an Iowa man who not only got lucky once when he won a Powerball prize. But he also hit the jackpot in another way, impacting his life forever.

The Clive, Iowa Man Who Won $1 Million

Daryl Ingram, of Clive, Iowa, was farming in his retirement from the trucking industry. And like so many dreamers, he would occasionally buy a Powerball ticket. On this fateful day, he took what he thought was a $100 winning ticket to the local convenience store to cash in on his meager winnings. To Ingram’s surprise, however, he had made a mistake in reviewing his numbers. As the clerk scanned the ticket, the lights on the machine began flashing. The clerk turned to Ingram and said, “It’s you! It’s you!” Ingram had actually won $1 million.

In the previous week, he had won $11 in his Powerball game. And he had used that $11 to buy the next week’s tickets, including the one that earned him a $1 million prize. Word traveled fast about his good fortune. Ingram said he even had a friend in Omaha, NE call him to congratulate him within 15 minutes.

The Retired Trucker and Farmer Wins at Life, Too

The 62-year-old farmer hadn’t just been lucky with two winning Powerball tickets, including that $11 win that allowed him to play again and win the cool million. It turns out 2022 was a lucky year for Ingram in life, not just money. Earlier in the year, Ingram had a major health scare and told interviewers he had also survived a heart attack. It seems good fortune in both life and Powerball have been on his side.

Daryl Ingram’s Big Plans

Upon receiving the good news, Ingram made a call to his girlfriend, Joan Ford. Her first reaction to the news was that he was joking. “I thought he was messing with me,” Ford said. Apparently, Ingram’s a bit of a prankster at heart. When she finally realized he had seriously won $1 million, she was beyond ecstatic.Ingram mentioned in an interview that he had big plans for his newfound wealth. He wanted to first pay off his mortgage. He also said he planned to invest some of the winnings for the future. And as a couple that already plans a few vacation trips every year, some of his Powerball prize money would go to a few travel excursions, too.

The Winning Powerball Ticket

Ingram had purchased his million-dollar winning ticket at the KCK’s Food and Fuel, a local convenience store in the small community of Danbury with about 320 residents. He was only one number away from that Monday’s Powerball jackpot prize of $485 million. Instead, his ticket matched the first five white ball numbers but not the red Powerball, which is enough to earn the $1 million prize. And because the KCK’s Food and Fuel sold the $1 ticket, the store will also receive $1,000 as a bonus for Ingram’s $1 million ticket.

Whenever something good happens that feels lucky or fortunate, many take it as a sign that other good fortunes will befall them. And it inspires many to rush out and buy Powerball tickets, hoping their streak of good luck will continue in a multi-million-dollar way. Daryl Ingram had a run of good fortune himself, having survived a heart attack and winning $1 million in Powerball. There’s no doubt he believes in repeat instances of good luck.
