Is there a science to choosing lottery numbers?
We all know that winning a lottery jackpot opens up doors to an unimaginable new life. A life without worry. A life where you can travel anywhere, anytime. A life where you can buy anything your heart desires.
A big win is a wonderous moment, for sure, and all you need to do is get the numbers right.
But is there a science behind choosing those winning numbers? Let’s discuss this.
You know there’s no hope of a Powerball jackpot win if you don’t purchase tickets, and yet spending your hard-earned cash on tickets every week isn’t always the number one way to increase your winning chances. In fact, the likelihood of winning the lottery isn’t very high. The higher a jackpot grows, though, the more people play, and that means there’s a greater chance of someone getting lucky.
Most of us think that picking random numbers is a pretty easy task. But it’s not always the case. There are lottery gurus out there that proclaim a science behind it all. That’s right, a science to picking random lottery numbers.
In fact, do a quick Google search for “lottery winning numbers charts” and you’ll find numerous charts showing you how often numbers are chosen in any given time frame you like. These are typically called hot numbers, and they could help you pick your winning combination.
Speaking of hot numbers, past winning Powerball combos have included 8, 13, 14, 39 and 54. Whether you consider them “hot” or just want to try your luck, it’s got to be worth a shot.
On the topic of luck, some people believe there’s a science behind where you buy your tickets, with hordes of winners coming from particular countries or US states.
Either way, the odds of winning a big lottery jackpot are still slim. You have a 1 in nearly 293 million chance of scooping the big prize, and a 1 in just over 11 million chance of winning a million or more.
With science, though, comes methods, and the Delta method has got to be one of the most complicated lottery number methods of all. If you’re big on numbers, you’re going to love this one.
It works like this: start off by choosing a very low number and then two numbers between 1 and 8. Next, pick two numbers from 8 to 15 and then write down your delta numbers (all the numbers you’ve just chosen).
Next, shuffle those numbers around and write down the first delta number, which will essentially be your first lotto number. Now, add the first and second numbers, and carry on to the end of your combination. Finally, add all the numbers so their sum isn’t greater than the highest number in a lottery drawing.
The Delta method is a little mind-blowing, isn’t it? If you’re not big on numbers or science, you might want to stick to special or meaningful numbers. Alternatively, you could let the computer pick your numbers for you – something many a jackpot winner has done in the past.
Does it mean you have a better chance of scooping a jackpot if you go the Quick Pick route? Maybe, but there’s a loophole.
If you regularly purchase Powerball lottery tickets and have a set of numbers you prefer to play all the time, stick to them. But keep in mind that if you play those numbers each time, you need to stick to the same numbers in the same layout to increase your chance of winning something.
According to the seven-time lottery winner, Richard Lustig, you should “never, ever” change your number combinations if you choose them yourself.
When it comes to players who prefer to have a go at Powerball every now and then, or when the jackpot is bursting at the seams, there really isn’t a science behind those numbers. Lotteries are a game of chance and luck, it’s just a matter of deciding how you want to pick your number combination for a draw.
